My understanding is that God is the ground of all things, all of us. People are just different minds and bodies animated by that same ground/presence. When you sit in stillness, detached from the mind and body, you experience that pure presence/pure consciousness. "Be still, and know that I'm God" begun to make sense when I understood this.
