@pbsnews: This weekend marks one year since the catastrophic floods at Camp Mystic in Texas killed 28 people: the camp director, two teenage counselors and 25 young girl campers. Most of the campers who died were just 8 years old. Torrential rains caused the Guadalupe River to suddenly surge on July 4, 2025, sending a deluge of water in just a matter of hours through the Texas Hill Country and, devastatingly, through the campgrounds where hundreds of girls slept. In their final report, state investigators said the camp failed to respond adequately to storm warnings, evacuations were too slow and there was poor emergency planning. Camp Mystic filed for bankruptcy on June 24. Many parents are still pressing for stronger camp safety standards, even as they honor their daughter's memories. Amna Nawaz spoke with Lacey and Lars Hollis, who lost their 8-year-old daughter, Virginia, that day. #pbsnewshour #pbsnews #newshour #news #campmystic #texas #flood

💯 on the response to people telling you you’re strong. You survive as humans do after major loss.

Kerrville Commissioner’s Court didn’t want $10 million from The Biden administration for early flood warning, took it anyways so blue states wouldn’t get the money, then spent $7 million on radios and another $1 million on oversight of installing the radios. Republican politicians brought about children’s deaths cause of party over people.
