@oonalinna: Before you date her notice this 👇 1️⃣ She says, "I'm not jealous." She just notices everything. 😂 2️⃣ She starts correcting which coffee shop you should've picked. ☕ 3️⃣ She laughs when you complain about the cold. ❄️ 4️⃣ She makes friends with every dog before introducing herself to people. 🐶 5️⃣ She says, "We'll leave in five minutes." She's still looking for her other boot. 👢 6️⃣ She remembers something you casually said eight months ago. 🤍

I have read this story so many times, but today I noticed something I had never paid attention to before. Jesus cursed the fig tree, and my first thought was, “But wasn’t it not even fig season?” At first, it sounded confusing, so I decided to study it instead of just moving on. What I found completely changed how I understood this passage. In first century Israel, a fig tree with leaves was expected to already have small early figs. The full harvest had not come yet, but a tree covered in leaves should still have had something to eat. The leaves gave the appearance that fruit was there. When Jesus came close, the tree had nothing. The tree looked healthy from far away, but it was empty. Then I noticed what happens next. Right after this, Jesus entered the Temple and confronted the religious leaders. That is not a coincidence. The fig tree was a living picture of people who looked faithful on the outside but were not producing the kind of faithfulness God desires. This is why reading the Bible in its historical and biblical context is so important. Sometimes a passage that seems confusing becomes incredibly clear when we slow down and study it. And it also made me stop and examine my own heart. Bearing fruit is simply living a life that is being changed by Christ. Growing in love, kindness, patience, obedience, forgiveness, and faith. Not because we are trying to earn God’s love, but because He has already changed our hearts. So the question I walked away with was this. Am I just full of leaves, or am I actually bearing fruit? “Every healthy tree bears good fruit.”
