As the mom on the father's side. I was fully prepared to leave the room when the time came. I was fortunate enough that she asked me to stay but I never once expected it.

yes given the backstory of the relationship between ur mom and her, she doesn't get to be there. u don't get to treat someone terribly and think u can be there in their most vulnerable moments. that will add stress to an already high risk pregnancy

Absoultly TAH. You are clearly aware of how your mom has treated your wife and you have allowed it. Labor and delivery is the most vulnerable state a woman can be, she needs to feel safe. Personally if it were me, I wouldn’t want your mom or you there. Sounds like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

I understand that the child is yours too, BUT you sir are not the one who is going to be in a very vulnerable position. It’s her right to allow who SHE is comfortable with during childbirth.

if your mom doesn’t care for your wife and your wife does not want her in the delivery room, she should not be allowed in. And with all the pain that Alice is gonna go through, it would be so irritating to have someone in there that you didn’t care for.. I would not want my mother-in-law in the delivery room with me.

You said your mum has never been your wife's biggest fan. When your wife is delivering she will be feeling hugely vulnerable and needs to be surrounded by nothing but love and positivity, and definitely no Judgement. Even if your mum is on her best behaviour, your wife won't be comfortable - and as she's the one doing ALL the hard work to deliver your child safely, it should be her call.
