@abbeyskitchen: I never want anyone to feel stressed about a “perfect” balanced diet when on vacation. That’s not the point!! But I know my body, and trying to get at least some protein in at meals and snacks helps me feel my best, especially on longer trips. These were my high protein staples during my trip to Italy - made extra challenging during a heatwave. #italy #highprotein #vacationeats #traveltips #italianfood

Eggs and protein bars are definitely a thing in Europe

I’m from Italy, I lived in big cities and I’m originally from a very small village in a rural area. I can ensure you every grocery store has eggs, protein snacks, cheese, Greek yogurts, even protein drinks. EVERY restaurant has “Secondi” which is some type of meat/fish dish. You can try ordering bresaola as an entree, some type of prosciutto very rich in protein, usually served with olive oil, lemon and Parmesan. Let’s not spread false information, we eat proteins every day

Might I suggest you call it an italian summer and not an euro summer if you only visited Italy? Europe is a very diverse continent (and other countries here for example do have lots of eggs for breakfast, e.g. UK, Germany…).

Abbey i love your content but this misses the mark. Europe is more than one country, and each country has vastly different options. Where I am, egg breakfasts and protein products in shops are fairly standard.

I feel like this is very much Italy as opposed to Europe. And very much in a touristy place. You can get the protein products in all major supermarkets

it’s not hard to find protein in Italy. Please stop saying Europe when you mean Italy. In many countries they do have high protein breakfast.

this is a joke right? number one, Europe is not a country so name the country you are talking about. Next I live in the netherlands, lived in belgium, germany, portugal and spain and all of them have many options. I don’t know where you looked but protein snacks are very populair..

What about fish? In Italy there are a lot of great fish dishes. And if you were in Tuscany then steak

Beans? Cheese? I’m vegan but there’s fish and meat as well in Italy. Protein bars are just processed food full of sugar have an artisanal gelato instead. Who eats lupini?

A ton of traditional Italian desserts are also ricotta-based (or even better sheep ricotta-based), which is pretty high in protein and delicious.

Is it really so important to meet protein goals on holidays? Is two weeks off going to impact your health at all?

I think it could be challenging in small towns, but bug touristy cities all have the variety of protein shakes everywhere. Also something like skyr, yogurt with added protein etc. Protein bars also, even in small towns. Look what I bought today in Berlin. 35g of protein for like 200 something calories

can you explai what nitrates are and why we should avoid them if possible? I've seen people say they are not good and the reason why processed meats are unhealthy, but I've also seen creators say they are not a problem at all... I'm confused and you are the voice of reason for me

shouldn't Bresaola be limited like any other cured meat for the increased cancer risk?

I'm sure it has been said in the comments, and I know the title is about Italy - however - you do mention this as a Europe issue. I will say that England is fully on the protein bandwagon with protein EVERYTHING even in budget supermarkets.

The small minimart here in Italy has rtd Shakes and protein snacks here. The karger supermarkets have an even bisher selection. In Germany you can get this on every corner. However Natural Protein sources are still best
