Deciding whether to stay or go is rarely a single decision, it's usually a slow build of hope, fear, and holding on to what things could become. Three questions genuinely help bring clarity, and they matter especially if you suspect you're in an emotionally abusive relationship. The first is whether you're staying because you actually want this relationship, or because you're afraid of what happens if you leave, being alone, money, the children, what the other person might do, or simply starting over. That fear is real, but naming it honestly separates it from genuine desire to stay. The second is harder to sit with. If nothing about this relationship ever changed, would you still choose it, exactly as it is, for good? So many people get stuck in potential rather than reality, imagining what things could look like if they changed, or the other person changed, rather than seeing what's actually there right now. The third question is whether you're spending more time hoping they'll change than looking honestly at who they are today. Holding onto potential instead of reality is one of the most common patterns in an emotionally abusive relationship, and it's part of what makes leaving feel impossible even when it isn't. You always have other choices, and nobody should feel forced to stay in a relationship, emotionally abusive or otherwise, out of fear rather than genuine choice Official accounts and resources: www.ellyanastasiades.com #emotionalabuse #emotionallyabusiverelationship #relationshipabuse #relationshipissues #relationshiptok
