It’s not necessarily scary. For me, it means the next step would be changing a behavior. If I’m allowing validation, it also comes with accountability. For example,”I’m feeling emotionally unsafe around this person.” If I validate that over and over, the healthy step would be to back up from that person, and that takes work.

Discovering that I can do that, that I can validate myself and feel compassion to myself, even when noone else does, that really was reaching another level of healing.

what if your spouse keeps telling you that it's not okay that it's there, it bothers them, they don't like it, and the only reason they encouraged you to get therapy in the first place is to "cure" it, and now you're constantly rejected for accepting and expressing your actual self that you spent decades rejecting yourself and suppressing.
