She was confiscated for animal cruelty from a drug house after authorities discovered 16 dogs trapped inside. One had already died. The owner had been gone for more than six days, leaving them with no food, water, or care. Baby had recently given birth, her nails were overgrown, skin was irritated, & she was so dehydrated that her bloodwork reflected what her body had endured. Somehow, she survived. Now, just less than 2 months after escaping that nightmare, Baby is facing another. She never learned humans can be safe. She doesn’t bark or fight. She tries to disappear. She crouches low, shakes, hides in the farthest corner of her kennel, & avoids eye contact, hoping no one will notice her. Volunteers describe her as completely unsocialized & terrified, not aggressive. Even the smallest movement can send her scrambling in panic as she’s convinced she’s in danger. She finds comfort in other dogs. She has consistently shown herself to be social, gentle, & tolerant in playgroup, quietly allowing greetings & keeping to herself. She desperately seeks reassurance from dogs, so a calm, confident dog could help her learn that the world isn’t always something to fear. Baby needs someone that’ll give her time & willing to celebrate the smallest victories: the first time she takes a treat, first wag of her tail, first time she chooses to stay instead of running away.
