My mother was a teacher of English and literature. she always brought me African literature to read to her and that is how I learnt how to read, but also how I fell in love with us. Going to school made me realize how inferior we think we are. if we only knew how beautiful our minds are...how vast our land is

The BC problem :
I read father's of nations [Paul vitta] for highschool, African literature just feels close and impactful... it influences thought and makes progress feasible... I also read the merchant from Venice in hs and though it was good... the piece just felt far removed from the realities I exist in. good literature is good: but the impact differs depending the environment that build the individual. African literature and oral narratives have a much needed impact on us.

...and I'm forever grateful we also had a lot of Caribbean literature studied in our classes in Trinidad & Tobago..a few american and english sprinkled in but majority was Caribbean authors!
