@chrisp.md: I’ve gotten asked a lot about study tips so here’s what I think is most important in your earlier years in residency. Build your mental framework. This sounds obvious (and it is), but at least what I’ve found is that actively creating your own mental model of a table of contents for everything you want to learn will help all the details stick better. How this looks: - Do a really detailed dive into your textbooks’ TOCs and start building your own framework for categories, subcategories, etc. - Do NOT perseverate over small details on your first run through. Maybe even the second. Those things will come with time and from seeing it irl. This can and should obviously be supplemented with whatever strategy works best for you for the details (like flashcards) but being able to incorporate them into a bigger picture will always help it stick better. And yes, keep preparing for cases and patients you’re directly taking care of; that’s probably the highest yield across all years. I want to hear from others as well, what’s a practical tip that made your studying easier? #medschool #medstudent #residency #studytip #medicine
