@thotline_xtra: 5th July 2026 - Just my opinion. A marginally improved economy means nothing if people are so miserable and beaten down that they can't appreciate it #news #germany #sickday #friedrichmerz #neoliberal
Best thing it people used to just call in sick for a day because they were feeling sick. Now they will go to doctor and get 7-10 days off because which doctor gives you one day off??

My opinion as a German in Germany about this topic is: it’s just used to shift out focus away from the Government taking down the Informationsfreiheitsgesetzt that basically blocks them from doing their lobby stuff in secrecy

And after all of that, he März then had the audacity to say "You don't have to go the the doctor, you just need to have a sick note". You can only get these Notes, if you phisicaly went to your primary doctor.

doctors offices are already completely overworked, I live in a small town and it's easier for me to drive 2 hours to Berlin to go to the doctor than try to get an appointment here because noone is taking new patients

1. The leave isn't high, we just document them better making the number seem higher than our neighbors.
2. The rules they are trying to implement will have the opposite effect. needing a doctor's note day 1 leads to a doctor's visit which usually results in a week off instead of 1-3 days.

The average sick days for workers are 16 days while the Bundestag and their employees have about 22 days. The government doesn’t disclose information on how many sick days our politicians have btw

I’m just happy that this is making international headlines and the sentiment seems to be the same across the board. I think it’s important to note that when they say “extraordinarily high” that should be taken with a grain of salt anyways. Since 2023 every single sick slip is tracked electronically which, as far as I know, isn’t something most countries do. Naturally that means our numbers seem inflated compared to those of other countries that don’t track these meticulously

My favourite is him saying „No you don’t have to go to the doctor on your first day being sick. You just have to provide a doctor‘s note on the first day“. You wanna explain how that is supposed to work? Especially if they also want to get rid of the possibility of getting a note via the phone?

"If we want to keep our wealth we need to..."
yeah quick question: whose wealth? because it isn't the populations wealth who can't afford rent (let alone property), who have to work longer for a worse retirement, who can't call in sick, who get much worse health care and social security like unemployment... what wealth are we securing?

Either people will take more days off because their doctors notes will allow them to OR people will go to work sick, impacting their team and bringing down overall productivity as people struggle to recover without rest.
