@tarac0157: I never imagined a medication prescribed to help my dog through fireworks would end with an emergency vet visit and an overnight stay. I’m sharing our experience with acepromazine to raise awareness. Every dog responds differently, but I wish I had known more about the potential side effects before giving it. If your dog struggles with fireworks or storm anxiety, I hope our story encourages you to have a conversation with your veterinarian about all of the available options and what to watch for after giving any medication. What do you do to help you dog with firework anxiety? #DogAnxiety #FireworksAnxiety #Acepromazine #DogSafety #PetParents
I’m SHOCKED that he was prescribed Ace! That’s so old school!

omg thats horrible! That isnt a you researching problem. That is a VET problem!
I also recommend pet insurance. We had a 8k bill when our cat when she was dying but since we had the insurance we only paid the deductible. We learned the hard way though her sister cat had an obstruction as a young cat and it was nearly 10k. We signed up for the insurance after that. Thank you for this information on the medication!!

Trazadone is what we use! I have 4 frenchies and it doesn’t knock them out just relaxes them a little bit. I’m glad your puppy is okayish!

Im so happy you gave him a half dose and he was ok. So scary. My vet has given my dog a low dose of tramadol before. Ace is really strong and not used often anymore. It’s used more on horses and sSometimes the dose that is to be given per weight is too strong. Its used for injections and dentals for horses to name a few. So scary I wouldn’t use it on a dog. I’m so happy your pup is ok 💜💜💜

Trazadone is what you need, for fireworks or storms. Unlike the other meds, over time it “rewires” the brain to not be afraid. Now, sometimes that take six months, one of my dogs took two years (that sounds like a long time, but not that many storms/fireworks instances), but they never had to have the meds after that. The dosing had a wide range, so it’s easy to start low and work up. I have smaller dogs that take more than larger dogs, it varies by dog.
