@phil_508610: Kamakura The Great Buddha of Kamakura stands at Kotoku-in Temple. Cast starting in 1252 during the Kamakura Period, this bronze seated Amida Buddha is 11.3 meters high and weighs 121 tons. Originally sheltered in a hall, the building was repeatedly ruined by typhoons, tsunamis and earthquakes. Since 1498, it has stood open-air. Well-preserved in its original form, it was designated a Japanese National Treasure in 1958 and ranks as Japan’s second-largest bronze Buddha.#culture #Japan #Buddha
