@dreamofitaly: One euro houses 🏠 in Italy! 🇮🇹 I get asked what is the deal with one euro homes in Italy all the time. Many small rural towns particularly in southern Italy have experienced population decreases and sell these these abandoned houses to bring life back to their villages. And it has worked. We visited one of these towns - Pratola Peligna in Abruzzo in Season 2 of Dream of Italy on PBS. And unlike many one euro towns this one has a train station and wasn’t too remote. I would consider buying there! First, keep in mind the house including all the fees for closing really will cost about 3,000 to 6,000 euros. It is often not inhabitable. Then you are required to renovate the 1 euro home within a set amount of time, often three years. This can be challenging as there are worker shortages and you really need someone on the ground managing the process. The renovations can cost 20,000 or 50,000 euros or more. You might decide just buying an already renovated home is an easier idea.
