En Ancien Français à l'université, on devait énumérer tous les changements phonétiques (avec leurs dates) d'un mot Latin au Français actuel. Ex: Comment de Bovare (latin), on a fini à Bœuf (aujourd'hui). C'était super intéressant. D'ailleurs, on comprends pourquoi le Français a une conjugaison aussi compliquée (terminaisons) par rapport à l'anglais par exemple...

I thought I heard somewhere that the French we hear today was the French of the Paris region. A couple centuries ago French was wildly different around different regions and sthg with the aristocracy forced it to be Paris-French.
