I saw a video where someone commented that ATLA is actually racist because they have characters like Jet (who happens to be darkskinned) who seem to never get the compassion and love that other characters like Zuko/Iroh (fairer skinned) seem to get. All three of these characters were at some point in time reprehensible but Zuko/Iroh got to redeem themselves meanwhile Jet is hated for his extremism. Iroh is a damn war criminal and Zuko was well on his way but got to redeem themselves. I understand their comments now.

The sword fight between him and Zuko is one of my favorites in the show. It shows how similar they are as characters. Both displaced by the fire nation, both unsure of who they are, and both are REALLY good with dual swords.

No one ever talks about the irony of him despising firebenders so much just to get killed by an earthbender

The episode “Jet” was the first episode I remember watching. 2006, small box TV, 6 years old. I’ve always loved that episode.
