Last week, a federal appeals court blocked Trump’s latest attempt to enforce his discriminatory passport policy — meaning for now, trans people can still get passports that reflect who we are. 🛂✨ I recently renewed mine early (even though it wasn’t expiring yet) because… who knows what’s coming down the pipeline. If you’ve already updated your gender marker, here’s the tea: our renewals aren’t the same as everyone else’s, the system still seems to “flag” us, and you may get extra paperwork. I received a foreboding letter in the mail referencing Tr*mp’s executive order on biological sex (it was not a bad joke, though the typesetting made it look like it might be) and was informed if I couldn’t prove I was a member of a class certified in Orr v. Tr*mp eligible for injunction relief I’d receive my previously legal male passport sent back to me “renewed” as the sex on my original birth certificate. 🏳️‍⚧️ So I got pissed, then I panicked, researched, talked with trans friends who offered input and their experiences, and made some calls. With some luck, and probably a lot to do with falling through the cracks of bureaucracy, my renewal went through. Why does this matter? A passport isn’t just for travel — it’s a federal ID you can use everywhere except driving. For trans folks in hostile states that no longer allow gender marker changes on drivers licenses (hi, Texas 👋), that matters more than ever. I’m not a lawyer, but my advice: if you can, renew now. Even if they deny you, you may then fall under the injunction categories and be able to resubmit. It’s worth the shot to protect yourself. 📌 Save + share this if you know someone who might need the info. #TransRights #ProtectTransPeople #LGBTQRights #TransJoy #TransAdvocate
