@brandyc337: 💚💚 July is Gastroschisis Awareness Month! Gastroschisis is a rare birth defect that affects about 1 in every 2,000 babies. Babies with gastroschisis are born with their intestines and sometimes other organs outside of their body through a small opening in the abdomen. The cause is still unknown, and from the very beginning these tiny warriors face surgery, long NICU stays, and a journey that can continue long after they go home. While advances in medical care mean more than 90% of babies survive, many still live with ongoing health challenges. This month, we raise awareness of gastroschisis, celebrate the incredible strength and resilience of these warriors, remember those who are no longer with us, and stand beside every family whose lives have been forever changed by this diagnosis. Every story matters, every warrior deserves to be seen, and every bit of awareness helps. We are awaiting the birth of our precious granddaughter, Camille Grace, a gastroschisis Warrior Princess! Thanks to an amazing team of doctors in Houston and the bravery of her amazing mom and dad, Camille‘s journey will likely change the future of gastroschisis treatment options for complex cases!
