I wouldn’t describe myself as aggressively patriotic for a plethora of reasons but I’d be lying if I said it didn’t hurt to see the 250th anniversary of our nation made a mess by this administration. I mourn the vision of what a true celebration of our nation could’ve looked like under a competent administration…. LIKE IT WAS OUR 25th BIRTHDAY 😭😭😭 WE WERE SUPPOSED TO LIVE IT UP 😭😭😭

I’d respectfully ask that you not include such long clips of Trump. I’m walking the dog while listening and pretty sure one passerby now thinks I’m maga. (Kidding not kidding)

To me, Mamdani's public address on the 3rd had big vibes of "the dad who stepped up".

Nope, we can't have nice things anymore, apparently. Worst 4th ever, I spent the day in mourning for our country.

I remember learning the preamble in Middle School. Our history teacher did a line by line breakdown of it to explains some of the antiquated language. Then we had to memorize it and recite it in front of the class

I tuned DC out & had a great local 4th of July here in Northern California. This year would have been my Dad’s 85th birthday, so I listened to his fav music, including Fielder & the Boston Pops & thought about 4th of July celebrations of the past. He was a proud Veteran, though he later protested the war. He was a ROTC student & grateful for his college education.

Soooo it’s OK to wear masks for a protest — or whatever it was they were doing — but not to save others from serious illness?

It is worth a congressional investigation as America 250 & the state/local humanities orgs who were promised $ for history, arts, service projects were quite literally robbed. The goal of Freedom 250 was to not allow we, the people, to celebrate/commemorate our country.

This 250th celebration was clouded by the this administration‘s continuation of making everything political, an “us versus them” celebration. Just another debacle to add to their 💩show list of events.

I appreciate the reminder that the founders were not only the men who signed the declaration.

We have nerve lived up to our ideals and expectations but at least we tried or even if we didn’t actually try we had the belief that we did. Sometimes pretending to have belief in the constitution ànd thé bill of rights tamps down on our worst instincts.

I think the statement that there are founders beyond the names on the founding documents is so correct as to be self evident. It merits as much or more argument on these grounds vs understandings of English common law at SC

one of the weirdest days, vibes-wise, I've experienced in the decade I've lived in DC and not just because of the face-melting heat. felt like everyone was holding their breath unsure what was about to happen. and the constant flyovers didn't help, either

Big business is the shadow under which gov operates (because of wealth inequality). The 1% already have all the money. They're teeming with capital. They have enough money for generations. They just don't want the gov to get any.
