Migraine headache that wakes you up in the middle of the night is not common. Does he have migraine disease? Does he get frequent mirgraine headaches? Waking up with migraine headache is concerning.

I’m not a doctor - just someone with severe headaches/migraines. If it came on suddenly, was really severe, and wasn’t like something he’d felt before it might be worth checking in with his PCP or neurologist if he has one just to make sure everything is okay!

Sudden onset of a headache like bang OT’s there in full force, and/or the worst headache you’ve ever experienced is a symptom of a stroke. Couple that with the odd and inappropriate description of a brain freeze. It might be worth getting him checked out by a doctor and asking for a neurological assessment.

I thought I was having a migraine about a month ago. It was worse than normal, but I thought that’s what it was. Turns out it was a stroke. If it persists, maybe have him see a doctor.

Re: brain freeze.. I feel it—intensely—in my throat. Nowhere near my head. I’ve yet to meet anyone else who experiences that.

Chronic Migraine sufferer here! I've had a migraine wake me up at 3am before. If it isn't something he normally experiences, he should probably get in to see a doctor soon.

so.. this needs to be looked at.. he may have issues with nerves in his head or CSF flow. my "migraines" that wake me in the middle of the night start at the base of my skull and also feels almost like a brain freeze. but they're not actually migraines, they're called "Chiari headaches". I've been diagnosed with Chiari Malformation Type 1. they're not normal headaches and aren't migraines. mine feel like cold sensation in the back of my neck like the inside of my neck. it's very weird

"brain freezes" can be felt in the head or the throat. but a migraine I've never heard of being called a brain freeze. that's more like a headache

I get this! If I eat ice cream too fast I get a sharp pain in my sternum. Obviously not a brain freeze but I don’t know what else to call it.

Migraine sufferer. Brain freeze for me is usually at the bridge of my nose. Migraine brain freeze can be anywhere. Lately it’s been behind my right eye, and feels like it’s cone shaped. 😅😬😖

Also brain freezes are technically roof of your mouth, not brain, but the sensory overload of the cold makes its way up your sinuses and that’s why it feels like your head
