I saw someone on TT had a theory that maybe the scientist and Gen were in a relationship but when Rann went back to save Lene, she altered everyone else's timeline and maybe that's why Gen "sees" this woman in her dreams but its really just a subconscious memory. I wished I remembered the lady's page.

I have a new theory:Let’s say that it is the opposite: The crazy scientist reset the timeline to try to save her sister and loses Gen in the process because her memory was erased. At the exact same time Rann dies and makes a wish… because of the red thread, her memory remains intact. This way, we have both a scientific (SF) and a mystical explanation for the show ..
