Well where did yakone learn it? katara never taught anyone. So obviously other people had discovered it before. Most people just probably come to the conclusion that its not safe. but im sure it is written down

Katara was immune to blood bending because her water bending was more powerful than Hama’s. The avatar state gives a massive boost to the avatar’s bending ability, so it’s more likely that the avatar states power boost made his water bending more powerful than Yakone’s.

Thats not true. In season 3 of TLOK we learn that near death experiences produce automatic activation of the avatar state. Yakone is trying to kill aang, the avatar state is activated. Simple

Katara almost cost the team the entire war over blood bending, if she either used it or taught Aang how (who would’ve definitely used it) then the first full moon after they would’ve won the war, maybe even before the eclipse. Her pacifism almost cost them everything

My theory is maybe he learned?? Or idk broke free by tapping into the avatar state, but there definitely was a blood bender before Hama (probably), after all blood bending is the same thing as plant bending, katura learned how to bend water in the plants, Aang could've used the avatar state to use that power of plant bending, but focus it in people. Or maybe it's just spiritual energy from the avatar state was too strong for the blood bender to usem

Or maybe Aang needed to enter the Avatar state in order to amplify his bending, because it would have made Yakone's control over him much easier to break from. Also he needed to enter that state to take Yakone's bending.
