My parents would tell me the plan ahead of time and then change it not thinking anything of it but I would meltdown at the change and then get in trouble for making a big deal of out of ‘nothing’. My meltdowns around change became a joke in my family like “oh we better not change xyz, Sarah won’t like it”. I now have CPTSD from going through childhood undiagnosed.

I wish they schedule more 3 person play dates when I was younger I was usually one on one and that person would end up thinking I was weird but when their was 3 of us I got a lot of benefits for seeing children interact casually and a lot of chances to learn to copy behavior

I know a lot of late diagnosed women can relate, but I was misdiagnosed as BPD as a young kid, and a lot of therapy was centered around "rewiring" a brain that got "wired wrong," so now I have to not only learn about how to help myself as a full adult, i have to reframe the intense guilt thats been built around just being who I am since a kid.

My parents started telling me the plan for things around 13 because they realized how much it helped. I had a close family friend who would take us on adventures but wanted it to be a surprise what we did I tried to stop going because the mystery stressed me out so much. so my mom started telling me the plan

Rules, all rules, are guidelines and the specifics are dependent on your particular life experience, and that's why they don't apply the same way all the time to all the people.

Wow you nailed it, I’m 21 and was diagnosed with adhd at 17 and since taking medication really realized that I’m pretty sure I’m autistic and this was exactly the kind of experience I had and the way I was treated. So much of my life could’ve been different if I was treated like this instead, but my parents didn’t know any better :/

Thank you for every video you post. My daughter has these melt downs and EVERYONE thinks I should be “harder” with discipline or she’ll be “entitled” but I’ve always thought it was something else… every video you post I feel so validated on this walk alone. 😭❤️

Heavy on the needing to know the plan. I teach art to kids now and I make sure to tell them the entire plan at the beginning of the day, with time stamps. I leave the plan up on the board if I can. I also make sure to actually follow the plan even if things get derailed. It helps both the neurodivergent and neurotypical kids!

As a 52 year old after a couple meltdowns and being degraded, punished, spanked and yelled at I found other ways to manage these feelings which led to internalized shame, disappointment and never being good enough. 🥺🥺

My 5 year old is autistic and you really opened my eyes about her behaviours ❤️I always try and remind myself she isn’t trying to give US a hard time she’s just having a hard time. I want to be better for her and prepare her for the world around her as best i can. Even though the world isn’t always prepared for kids who are different 😕

K permission to vent. I’m 50 plus and recently diagnosed. My Dad was an accepting human; he always said there’s nothing wrong with her; she’s just a bit anxious. My Mom openly called me weird, ungrateful; it is what it is. I spent my whole life trying to appease her, still trying but at least I understand now; I never can yet I still keep trying. He’s gone 20 yrs or so. Miss him and his understanding so much. Some people will never understand nor accept. Ps I’m actually not that weird. I just like to read lots and like alone time and don’t like fakeness social constructs. So pleased that young peeps today are more educated so they can understand who they are and know it’s ok. We all have our place, we are all good 🥰🇮🇪☘️💚👏💕

As a mum to an adhd child who is likely autistic as well, thank you! We have her assessment next month but she definitely doesn’t understand social cues and how to communicate. I explain things to her but what are some things you needed to be explained? Can you list some so I can help her?

I was 17 when I was officially diagnosed. I was 11 when I discovered autism and researched it, I knew I was but I had no idea how to tell anyone cos I knew no one would listen.

My kiddo does infinitely better when he knows the plan/order of things we are doing when we go out! We also discuss it as we are doing it, like: we just went in Hobby Lobby, then we are going in Walmart next, and then getting lunch last
