I was pretty upset about the whole teen takeover thing too. My husband and I were also in Newport, and had more the one lit mortar thrown by us. It heavily triggered his PTSD from being in Afghanistan. Everyone was ok, but no one should be throwing explosives at our feet and forcing us to flee at a second’s notice for our safety.

I’m sorry this happened and so many Newport locals and some nearby the area a whole rampage with no restraint and it’s more than just teens having fun it’s chaotic and they probably get away with a lot I hope these teens learn & I hope your kiddo can still enjoy the holiday next year

when my daughter was a toddler we went to a local fireworks show. and one of the fireworks did not go as planned and literally were landing all over by us one landed on a baby another caught a blanket on fire like a war zone. she still likes fireworks and is 17 now. how we responded and talked about it the days after is what made it not a life altering event. we went and got sparklers for the kids the next night and the little poppers and just showed her not to be scared.

I’m so sorry this happened, because one TikTok post and a bunch of parents not having a clue where their kids were, things were destroyed such as a grocery store and I’m happy you’re OK. I’d like to say something else, but I don’t need the strike.
