Although we Had To Have a wedding reception we managed to keep it below 100 people and rented the cheaper and older church hall. My wife’s uncle did the catering free. The flowers were gift from my boss. Got a cheap DJ and we were good to go. Kept it under $10K. It was 34 years ago but, it was equal to price of a new cheap economy car then (now maybe $20-$25K?).

We’re doing a medium wedding (40k) then using our savings + money from wedding to buy a house. We are doing no registry or honeymoon.

I used the money I made on my wedding for a down payment on a house and all our furniture and appliances and had a nice chunk left over, people were dropping envelopes like crazy and everyone was making money at the time, looks like times have changed

I think the smartest thing is this economy is to elope. Elope and use all that money that you’d originally use for a wedding and take it and use it for your closing costs for your first home. You could always have a party with your family at another time.

Elope! (Second marriage here) We had an officiant friend sign our papers, my mom paid for a cute little brunch and now we have a 6 bedroom house, this was VERY important to us that all of our girls had their own rooms.
