Wait… people aren’t getting food/drinks/water for their patients during this? Making sure your patients are hydrated and eating well is absolutely part of your job as a nurse and is considered direct patient care.

I work in a US hospital so maybe it works differently there, but if nursing staff isn’t doing these things, who is? Nursing staff is overworked and understaffed, I absolutely agree, but doesn’t this just put more strain on ancillary staff?

I hope all the excess managers aren’t hiding during your job action. They need to be fully present on the floors pitching in and taking responsibility for the gaps in the work flow. You know, coordinating everyone through the chaos so the RNs can concentrate on their patient care and needs. The hospitals are full of acutely ill patients. Everything is urgent.
