Save this video and use it whenever you’re revising. 📚👇🏽 1️⃣ Supine — patient lies flat on the back, facing upward. 🧠 Think: SUPINE → SPINE 2️⃣ Prone — patient lies on the abdomen, facing downward. 🧠 Think: PRONE → TUMMY DOWN 3️⃣ Lateral — patient lies on their side. ➡️ Can be right or left lateral. 4️⃣ Sims’ Position — a side-lying, semi-prone position with the upper leg flexed. 🧠 Think: SIDE + FLEXED LEG 5️⃣ Fowler’s Position — head of the bed is elevated, commonly around 45–60°. 6️⃣ Semi-Fowler’s — head of the bed is elevated around 30–45°. 7️⃣ High-Fowler’s — head of the bed is elevated around 60–90°. 8️⃣ Trendelenburg — patient is supine with the feet higher than the head. 🚨 HEAD DOWN ⬇️ FEET UP ⬆️ 9️⃣ Reverse Trendelenburg — the opposite direction. 🚨 HEAD UP ⬆️ FEET DOWN ⬇️ 🔟 Lithotomy — patient lies on the back with the hips and knees flexed and the legs supported in stirrups. This is commonly used for certain gynecological and obstetric procedures. 1️⃣1️⃣ Knee-Chest — patient rests on the knees and chest with the hips elevated. ✨ Nursing student tip: Don’t just memorize the names. When studying patient positions, learn what the position looks like, how to describe it during an OSCE, and why/when it may be used.
