I didn’t think about Oregon tax so the job I applied to offered me $20. That’s a lot of money right? No I’ll only be making $15 because of Oregon taxes 💀 my bf has to pay for everything now. But i keep getting told “it’s the start of your career it’s ok to get offered that much” I shouldn’t be offered that much when I have two degrees ☠️

If the job offers a 401k, that is the most important type of savings to begin with. Get the experience so you can advance to a better job. Get a roommate. Eat at home. Don’t get saddled with a car payment. I am speaking from experience. It’s not exciting, but consistency pays off.

Sorry people are being so brutal here. I was a broke “indie sleaze” kid in the late 2000s/early 2010s working at Starbucks. I always put some money in my 401k and then like $40 a paycheck in savings. Idk for me when I was that broke, I didn’t miss money I never had so I just put it away and lived like it didn’t exist

I'm in my 40s with kids and moved in with my in-laws. We fall in that gap where we don't make enough for the size apartment we need (2 adults, 3 kids) but make too much for any kind of assistance.

You have to decide if you’re willing to sacrifice comfortability for the long term I personally don’t think the world will be around long enough for me to give a fuck

Budget. Sorry, but that’s it. It’s what we had to do starting out. We scrimped by. We didn’t buy anything new that could be given to us or thrifted. We NEVER ate out unless parents invited us out and if we did eat out we did it cheap. I remember arguing with a cashier at burger one time who charged me a quarter for water (it was suppose to be free!). No stops for drinks or snacks. No fancy makeup or bathing/beauty products. You hunker down, focus on the long goal, and make it happen.

I’m 65 and retired. I’ve never afforded housing on just my income. Never owned a new vehicle. Never had more’n a thou in savings. It is what it is 🤷‍♂️
