I’v always said that it’s okay to watch movies that are just fun and not that deep. It’s like eating junk food as long as it’s not the only media you consume it’s good to just turn your brain off a bit. I had fun with primate and thats all I asked for.

It is easier to complain about what a movie isn’t than it is to discuss what a movie is. And I think a lot of people lead with negativity because that’s the whole point ”controversy first” edict of content creation. It’s not my fave, for sure.

I think people also got defensive post covid. There were people who let theories run wild and then got really disappointed when none of what they convinced themselves would happen came true. WandaVision was a big example of this. It got delayed so people theorized more and more and then kept doing so week to week and were soooo mad and disappointed when they were wrong. I think experiences like that have made people less willing to theorize or be hopeful for a surprise.

Yes! Not every movie needs to be a critically acclaimed cinematic masterpiece! If I walk away from the movie feeling like I’ve gotten my moneys worth and time well spent, it was a good movie.

The best medicine I got on not being a constant critic was a series of short road trips with a fun and happy college friend who kept falling into critical analysis of the favorite music and movies of every person on the rides with us. It was just like watching in third person how much people would be displeased and having less fun if I let my brain go rampant with its analytical energy. From there it was “liking things is more fun than not liking things” as my default motto unless something was actually causing harm.
