the more i sit with obsession i don’t get the hype around it, it’s not a bad movie and i like that it’s original but everyone made it seem like it was this sickening and insane masterpiece of a movie but there was never a moment where i was like “yo that’s so crazy wtf”

Concept originality should nowhere near go to obsession. The concept of “be careful what you wish for” and more specifically the dangers of making someone fall in love with you has been around for so long. Look at the gingerbread man short story from shrek. The backrooms whole concept and story is a lot less well known even if it’s been around since “the yellow wallpaper” but even then it’s technically not the same concept as the movie.
