This 3 year old coffee is irrigated regularly and carrying a heavy cherry load 👀☕ But look at the stems and leaves closely. That black sooty coating is sooty mould. And it is not just dirt. It is a warning sign your farm is sending you right now 🌱 Here is the truth most farmers miss. Sooty mould does not come alone. It grows on top of honeydew produced by mealybugs feeding on your coffee stems and branches. So when you see soot you already have a mealybug infestation underneath it 💪 How to identify mealybugs on your coffee: Look at the stem joints and under the leaves. You will see white cottony waxy clusters. That is the mealybug colony hiding and feeding 👀 What this does to your farm: The mealybugs weaken your tree by sucking sap. The honeydew they produce feeds the sooty mould. The mould then blocks sunlight from the leaf surface. Your tree cannot photosynthesise properly and your cherry quality drops even when the load looks heavy 🔥 What to do immediately: Spray a systemic insecticide. Chlorpyrifos or white oil is effective against mealybugs. Target the stem joints and undersides of leaves where they hide. Follow up with a copper based fungicide to clean up the sooty mould. Repeat after 14 days to catch the next generation 💪 Stay on your spray calendar. Irrigation alone does not protect you from pests 🌱 Follow for Episode 6 dropping tomorrow ☕🔥 Link in bio for seedlings, land and farm visits 🔗⬆️ #TheCoffeeTruth #Mealybugs #SootyMould #CoffeePests #KenyaCoffee
