The world's oldest known dyed flax fibers were discovered in Georgia. Excavations at Dzudzuana Cave uncovered twisted and colored flax fibers dating back approximately 34,000–36,000 years, representing the earliest known evidence of thread and textile technology. Georgia has one of the world's oldest traditions of gold mining and gold craftsmanship. Archaeological evidence shows that gold was being mined and worked in western Georgia over 5,500 years ago. The extraordinary wealth of ancient Colchis later inspired the Greek legend of the Golden Fleece. Situated between Europe and Asia, Georgia connected civilizations for thousands of years.
