Okay, I get your argument and your broader point, but the thing is that what people call "Geisha makeup" is really just traditional Japanese makeup. Geisha are simply one of the groups still carrying that tradition today. The white face makeup (oshiroi), red lips, red eye accents, and black eyeliner were not exclusive to Geisha. This was traditional Japanese makeup in general and was used by Samurai women, Court women, Merchant women and Performers. It was basically the beauty standard of the time, just like foundation, lipstick, and eyeliner are today. And people also forget that blackened teeth (ohaguro) were primarily a marker of marriage and adulthood. Married women across different social classes practiced it. Geisha used it too in the past and retained some of these traditions longer even to this day, but that doesn't make it uniquely "Geisha makeup." That's why I don't really understand why people keep calling it Geisha makeup instead of traditional Japanese makeup. I understand the comparison you're making with drag queens and the larger point behind it, but honestly, it feels a bit random to me because they're coming from completely different cultural contexts. I don't know much about drag culture, and while I respect it, the aesthetic has never really been my thing. But Geisha and traditional Japanese beauty practices come from a very different historical and cultural background. So I just wanted to add that bit of context because reducing all of these beauty traditions to just Geisha is not really accurate. BTW I really love your videos and your opinions otherwise.
