Escudero handed down the ruling during Day One of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday, July 6, 2026. He reasoned there is “no lawful order issued by the court for this box to be turned over to the Senate. More so that it is not yet offered in evidence, not even as of yet marked.” The box in question contains the official income tax returns and financial records of Duterte, her husband Atty. Mans Carpio, and their companies. The documents form part of the House prosecution panel’s evidence in relation to Article II of the Articles of Impeachment, which accuses Duterte of amassing unexplained wealth.
