I have a son my plan when he starts working is to pay “rent” but put it into savings for him and when he is ready to move out I’ll give it straight back to him

You chose to have a child they shouldn’t have to pay rent unless you’re saving that money to give back to them when they move out

This clearly exaggerated but I do agree if your working you should contribute not extortion prices even if it’s just paying for your phone or even just the internet bill a little of something

I genuinely hate it when you finally start making some actual money and they criticize every purchase you make like if I want to have some food I haven’t had it a while why do you care that I spent 30$ on a meal or if I buy a sword or a guitar with extra cash that isn’t in a saving account

I’m fortunate enough that my parents charge me £120 a month for rent but I know I am never going to see it again and while my siblings are all in work as well they have never been told to pay anything towards rent of any kind they also suggest I apply to pip and pay that to rent as well it’s one of the reasons I don’t apply to it
