Totally agree. There is no excuse for using “next Wednesday” when it’s only (or already) Thursday. It’s either “on Wednesday” (6 days) or “a week on Wednesday” (13 days).

The problem started when everyone started using “next” Wednesday differently. I’m the guy who never assumes next Wednesday is next Wednesday because no one seems to actually agree on that. I add quantifiers now. “This coming Wednesday “ or not the Wednesday coming up. The one after”

‘Next Wednesday’ when it’s already Thursday is tricky territory. Because if they are referring to the Wednesday in six days, then surely they’d just call it Wednesday. The incorporation of the word ‘next’ leads me to believe they’re referencing the Wednesday 13 days from now🤔 just give me the date 😂

In Ireland, we say “Wednesday week or Wednesday fortnight” if it were a Monday meaning it’s not the Wednesday in two days time it’s the following Wednesday or possibly two weeks away. When it’s just the Wednesday coming up, we would say this Wednesday.
