Nur, I think there may be some confusion here. We learned Islam through the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and Allah explicitly instructed us to follow the Messenger: ﴿وَمَا آتَاكُمُالرَسُولُفَخُذُوهُوَمَا نَهَاكُمْعَنْهُفَانْتَهُوا﴾ “Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you from, abstain from it.” (Qur’an 59:7) The principle is straightforward: anything that genuinely contradicts the Qur’an cannot be authentically attributed to the Messenger; rather, it would be due to error in transmission or attribution by people. Therefore, we follow the authentic hadith that are consistent with the Qur’an and accurately convey the Prophet’s teachings.

Absolutely. For those who have been told all their lives to never question their elders - this is not an Islamic teaching. Respecting your elders - yes, most definitely! However, respect does not mean believing or following the mistakes of others. Islam is about seeking the truth. The Holy Quran itself is built on truth. Everything in the Quran is explained through simple logic. The Quran does does command, it persuades. It explains. It offers justifications. Think about that for a moment. All my life I have encouraged my children to tell me openly if I have been wrong or misunderstood. That is how it should be - we should encourage and nurture openness.
