Girl, I’m missing my dog. The physical presence of my sweet pug; the way she’d snuggle, the way she’d let us kiss her face off, and the way she smelled. And she loved us unconditionally. So yeah, I miss HER, not how she made me feel about myself.

I couldn’t disagree more. Saying we’re not grieving our pets, but instead grieving who we were when they were alive, feels incredibly dismissive. To me, that’s making their loss about us instead of acknowledging who they were. I miss them—their personality, the joy they brought to our family, their unconditional love, their little routines, and the space they filled in our lives. They weren’t just a chapter of my life; they were a life that mattered. That’s who I’m grieving.

Loving a pet is such a tragically beautiful experience. We know they only have a short time with us and yet we give our love so freely and become attached to them knowing we are gonna see them go before us. I’m so thankful for my pets and what they teach me and I only hope I can love on any pet until I die. ❤️❤️
