@aspyrelab: Nobody tells you this... 🌱 A baby left to potter about on their own is not being neglected. They are being trusted. There is a name for what that mother is doing without realising it. She is acting as a secure base. A baby's drive to explore only switches on once their internal threat system goes quiet. And nothing quiets it faster than a familiar adult within reach. Watch closely and you will catch it. Your little one wanders off, glances back, then carries on. That quick check-in is called social referencing, one of the earliest signs of healthy attachment. Here is the part that lifts the pressure off. Winnicott built a whole theory around the good enough parent. Responding warmly most of the time, not every waking second, is what grows resilience and self-reliance. Constant hovering can actually break the very concentration you are hoping to build. So when you sit back and let your baby lead, the stillness is not laziness. It is some of the richest developmental work on offer. What is one thing your baby happily does on their own? 👇 Maximise your child's potential, starting from before they're born. I does feel so bad that I'm not actively engaging with my child but I also remember that it is good for her development and build her confidence too.

same for adults. when I visit my parents I don't need constant talking or activity. just relaxing on the sofa with the tv or in silence while shutting my eyes with them around is enough.
