I am always surprised Cañas is marketed as horror. Vampires of El Norte is by far my favorite of her three books (and probably the most fitting of the horror title) but even that is more of a psychological thriller/romance with some horror elements.

Runaway Prince by Morgan Dante has been my biggest let down so far. I suffered being a novella. I believe it would have benefitted from the growth allowed by a full length novel.

I was really peeved that shroud is the only one not provided in full in the hugos packet, as well! I'll read the extract to give it a fair punt, but I'm not going to go and buy the whole thing, I think it's a bit cheeky to only do an extract when everyone else has provided the full book 😭 same in series, thought it was tight for emily wilde to only be extracts when everyone else provided multiple books!

I enjoyed Waite’s Celestial Mechanics romance, but you have me scared for her novella now. Haha. I’m working my way up the Hugo nominees from shortest to longest. 😅 The short stories were great!

I had forgotten that Olivia Waite wrote the Lady’s Guide to Celestial Mechanics! I very much agree with your issues with Murder by Memory (even tho I am a reader of cozy sff)—it just really didn’t work for me.
