@ollie.soloz: do not bean soup me! there is a difference between enabling someone and being understanding. you obviously should never let people genuinely mistreat you. people w SMI have control of our actions NOT our emotions. if you want your loved one with mental illness to just not react when you trigger them, you are asking for the impossible. if you want someone to get better don’t just help them so you don’t feel bad about yourself help them because you actually can. #bpd #mentalillness #MentalHealth #npd #relationships
holding someone acountable and being kind can coexist.

as someone who is mentally ill + has a mentally ill partner, i would just like to add; yes, you can be upset with them, even for a behaviour that is not directly their fault, it can still impact you negatively and it is okay to express that, as long as that's being communicated respectfully. i would also like to say; people have cut contact with me because i was "too sick" for them to deal with, and that is okay too, not everyone is up for it, especially if you've gotten too comfortable in your sickness (which i definitely was at one point), try not to dwell on it too much, i promise you will find better people to surround yourself with. i wish everyone here good luck and better health❤️

I tend to fall into self isolation bc of this. i’m tired of overexplaining myself to people just for them to end up expecting me to function like a normal person and it feeds into the self loathing bc i’m aware me being me hurts people even if it’s never intentional

(Not bean souping just relating) i treated his flaws(illnesses) just as flaws and something that we could overcome together because i knew who he was as a person. The thing is, the more effort i put in trying to help him actually WANT to improve, takes out the effort i put into improving myself. He listened but he never changed/handled his coping skills better because he didnt put in the work and didnt want to put in the work. It came to a point where it was just exhausting and hurting me. I had to leave but like i still miss and love him so so much so im stumped guys (sorry i basically just journaled in the comments enjoy)
