I find myself somewhere in-between. Reforms aren't enough alone to make a full transition to socialism and communism should be the goal but I think reforms still hold value in the process of building an effective revolution. A socially democratic country is much better prepared for a healthy revolution than one under Laissez-Faire capitalism. It's also important for checks and balances to exist to fulfill a proper dictatorship of the proletariat and Marx's vision of socialism being a massive expansion of democracy. Punishment of vocal dissent in the name of political prosperity fails to represent the wider proletariat and effectively creates a new ruling class.

As someone who is a democratic socialist I hate this framing, democratic socialism isn't just socialism light or using the existing democratic systems to bring about a more socialist society. It's about democratising our economies such that the means of production is truly owned by the people.

As a democratic socialist (I’m still looking for what form of socialism is in my opinion ‘the best’ version) the last thing I’m trying to do is throw communism under the bus. Marx is the inventor of almost all leftist ideologies. He was a communist but also supported the German Demsoc revolution before ww1. Yes the end goal of the ideologies are different but at the end of the day we are just like u said fighting against capitalism imperialism and the patriarchy 🙂↕️🙂↕️
