Court Remanded Buba Jallow to Mile 2, Case Transferred to High Court as Magistrate Court Lacks Jurisdiction to Try. By Kexx Sanneh of Kexx News The Kanifing Magistrates' Court has transferred the murder case against Buba Jallow to the High Court after ruling that it lacks jurisdiction to hear a capital offence. Buba Jallow, charged with the murder of Ebrima Njie, appeared before Magistrate F. J. Camara of the Kanifing Magistrate Court. Chief Inspector Bojang and ASP S. Bah appeared for the Inspector General of Police, while the accused was unrepresented. When the case was called, Chief Inspector Bojang made an application under Section 72 of the Criminal Procedure Act, submitting that the offence was a capital one carrying a possible sentence of life imprisonment or sentence to death upon conviction, and that the Magistrates' Court therefore lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter. He applied for the case to be transferred to the High Court for hearing and determination, and for Buba Jallow to be remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison pending trial, pursuant to Section 228 of the Criminal Offences Act. Magistrate Camara, in her ruling, agreed that the charge of murder placed the matter beyond her court's jurisdiction. She ordered the case transferred to the High Court under Section 228 of the Criminal Offences Act, and remanded Buba Jallow to Mile 2 Central Prison under Section 72 pending the hearing and determination of the case. According to the charge sheet, Buba Jallow is accused of stabbing Ebrima Njie with a knife on his mid-upper back on June 29, 2026, at Latrikunda German in the Kanifing Municipality, causing his death. The prosecution charged him with murder contrary to Section 155, punishable under Section 156 of the Criminal Offences Act 2025. The case has now been transferred to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court.
