I think this would be great with spiral pins instead of bobbies. they're helix shaped so they sort of screw into the hairstyle and hold it at multiple places. it anchors it without causing any tension on the scalp. if you did a stitch or two of dutch braids instead of the flip on the top pony it'd support itself well.
