There is a life I think about sometimes. A life where, in 2016, I stayed in Colorado with my father instead of being taken away by my mother. In that life, the mountains stand outside the window every morning, tall, quiet and strong beneath the sky. Every weekend we go hiking together, walking among pine trees and cold streams, breathing air that feels fresh. clean and endless. My father comes home from his work, fixing and testing the worlds most advanced radar, on the F35, and our house is warm and steady. On Sundays we go to church, and faith is not something distant, but something woven into everyday life. The old Catholic churches are beautiful, filled with candles, stained glass, and peace. In that life I have friends. I spend time outside. I laugh more. I feel healthy, active, and close to God. But history turned another way. One single decision, one moment, and an entirely different life unfolded. Now I live far from the mountains, in a place where the horizon stretches flat for miles. I spend many days in my room, and church feels farther away than it once did. Sometimes I grieve for the person I might have been. Yet the mountains I miss still exist beneath the same sky. Faith can still be found. Friendships can still grow. And though I cannot walk into that other life, I carry its beauty inside me—the love of family, the longing for God, and the memory of places that made my heart feel alive. Sometimes the saddest thing is not losing what you had, but mourning what could have been. #poem #nature #God #catholicism #fyp
