Current estimates place its mass at approximately 100 billion times the mass of the Sun, although this figure has not yet been confirmed by direct measurements and remains a subject of research. It is located at a distance of approximately 5.8–8.5 billion light-years from Earth. If this mass estimate is correct, the diameter of its event horizon is approximately 4000 astronomical units, which is approximately one hundred times larger than the diameter of Pluto's orbit. Despite its enormous size, Phoenix A does not "suck in" everything around it: at large distances, its gravity acts the same as that of any other object of similar mass. Of particular interest to scientists is the surrounding Phoenix Cluster, where, contrary to expectations, very active star formation continues, although such a massive black hole should prevent this.
