So I don't use chrome but the file is there and can be read by any app. Chrome is just the app that surfaced the problem. My question is that my browsers are installed by Flatpak. Would they have access to this file in /etc? I'm not home so I can't check.

Doesn't impact me. I am logged in to Gmail, so they can identify me anyway, regardless of the machine id. Just like any other website which can create cookies
