@missclairebenjamin: How to respond to intrusive questions you don’t want to answer at work… Everyone has different personal limits and boundaries at work which means what one person is comfortable sharing another person may not be. That doesn’t make either wrong or right. It’s really important we communicate our limits and boundaries with the people around us to ensure we feel comfortable and emotionally safe at work. This also ensures the other person is clear on our limits- helping us maintain healthy working relationships. When someone oversteps our limits we can communicate our boundaries kindly and respectfully. They can’t know our limits unless we share them. When someone sets a boundary with us sometimes it can be uncomfortable to hear. It’s a great skill to not get defensive and instead practice respecting it (even if you don’t understand it) and thank them for letting you know. 💬 Have you ever been on either side of this? Yes but your career is also about developing relationships, which is hard to do if your boundaries are rigid

It's not being intrusive, it's just getting to know someone. If someone reacts this way to friendly banter, they are the one with the problem

Actually it can be “wrong” to ask personal questions, depending on the situation, questions, and whether or not this person reports to you. How about re-enacring this scene to depict why we don’t ask co-workers that we don’t have an established relationship who they live with. If you’re trying to be friendly and establish rapport, how about “plans for the summer?” “Enjoying the weather” and leave personal questions for personal relationships.

I feel like I’m constantly nit picking at management atm because they keep a) giving feedback that’s wrong or b) rolling out things I feel are just unfair. I keep challenging things politely but I feel like I’m being difficult and don’t know what to do
