He didn't get rid of the red card. From what I'm reading, he simply asked for a review and the penalty was changed to a single game. This is not the first time this has happened in the sport. There's an existing rule that allows for it, and it's happened for various players on various teams throughout the history of the game. People are only upset because Trump is the one who asked for a review.
