“I know I phrased that like a request, but that was just so it’d sound polite.”

It’s funny because my manager will ask me to do something like it’s a favor and he thanks me like I did it out of the kindness of my heart and I respond “well, it’s my job”

I love taking PTO just to know other people have to actually do their jobs when I'm gone. Most of my department is that way.

My boss asks if I can do her favors and I have to remind her that she’s just telling me to do work and that it’s 100% fine to ask me to do things 😭

when I was a foreman, I would usually say "I know I made that sound like a question; but that was just me being polite. I'm telling you to do it."

I had a coworker who used to say "say please" when I was trying to split tasks with them so we weren't doing the same thing. It drove me crazy. My manager said "well we should always be polite" but how is telling someone to say please polite? She often did this infront of other people too

Holy fuck, yes. I asked a colleague to do their part and they said "I'll help you just this once." and I'm like huh?

I had to have a chat with someone we hired years ago bc she kept telling me that something was good the way it was and I was like “hey, this is not about your preference. It is not correct. Fix it” lol

I have a guy at work who always says “I don’t mind helping you out” when I’m literally asking him to do his job😂

There was an admin assistant at my previous job. She didn’t technically report to me, but she was the admin assistant assigned to support group. Since most of our work was automated, she had very few responsibilities. She made an error on one of the only important tasks she had. I asked her to fix it three times and even escalated it to management, but they brushed it off because she was close to retirement. She felt that because she didn’t report to me, on paper, it “wasn’t her job” to fix a mistake she made . The company later got sued over that mistake and had to pay a few thousand dollars.

Yes…. but how do we word that when it’s another lateral position?!?! Mgrs can say that but we always feel like we have to be nice and nonconfrontational to get the thing we need to move forward!

I have the opposite problem. They’ll ask me to do something that is very clearly under their title

I had a 23 year old call HR b3cause I extended her Friday deadline to Monday because she was worried she wouldn't have it finished. She told them I ordered her to work over the weekend. Also this was a salaried position and sometimes, that is necessary.

I'm assuming this is not the scenario you're talking about, but personally it's just more of a mutual respect thing to phrase it like a request. For example in my job "Can you come up here and cover the cashier for their break?" I'm not going to say no, but it's nice to be asked instead of "You're coming up here now"

Had a coworker quit because I asked her to do her job. The person in my position previously had done it for her but due to us being remote/displaced due to building upgrades I couldn’t even if I wanted to. She turned in her notice rather than doing the task.
